Grammy-winning saxophonist, composer and producerJoe Lovanois fearless in finding new modes ofartistic expression. He has also received numerousawards fromJazz Timesand theJazz Journalists Associationfor Tenor Saxophone, Album of the Year andMusician of the Year.Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 29, 1952 he attended the famed Berklee College of Music inBoston where years later he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate. Since 2001 he has held the GaryBurton Chair in Jazz Performance and is a founding faculty member since 2009 of the Global JazzInstitute at Berklee directed by Danilo Pérez. He is a guest lecturer at New York University’s JazzProgram, Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music as well as Clinician at Universities around the globe.From 1991 through 2016, Lovano released an unprecedented 25 records as a leader for the historic BlueNote Records.Joe Lovano Quartet: Classic! Live at Newportfeaturing Hank Jones was recorded in 2005and released in 2016 to critical acclaim.In 2019, Lovano released his debut album as a bandleader onECM Records,Trio Tapestry,with Marilyn Crispell and Carmen Castaldi.Over the next few years, Lovanosaw the release of three additional ECM Records albums:ROMA, a collaboration with Enrico Rava; ArcticRiff, a special guest appearance with the Marcin Wasilewski Trio; and the sophomore release fromLovano’s Trio Tapestry,Garden of Expression.In 2021,LovanoreleasedOther Worlds,his third albumwith Sound Prints, a quintet he co-leads with trumpeter Dave Douglas.The next year brought acollaboration with guitarist Jakob Bro,Once Around the Room: A Tribute to Paul Motian. Most recently,Lovano released his third Trio Tapestry recording entitled,Our Daily Bread.In addition, composer Mark Anthony Turnagewrote a Concerto for Saxophone and Chamber Orchestrafor Joe called “A Man Descending” which has been performed globally and Maestro Michael Abeneorchestrated an album of all-Lovano originals calledSymphonicafor the WDR Symphonic Orchestra andBig Band, which was released on Blue Note and received a Grammy nomination.Joe has performed and recorded with a long list of jazz greats including Woody Herman, Dr. LonnieSmith, Mel Lewis, Bob Brookmeyer, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Tony Bennett, Abbey Lincoln, Charlie Haden,John Scofield, Gunther Schuller, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Ed Blackwell, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland,Hank Jones, Dave Liebman, Michael Brecker, Dave Douglas, Judi Silvano, Ravi Coltrane, Chucho Valdés,Ornette Coleman,Diana Krall,and many others. More Morricone nasce da una proposta del produttore discografico Pierre Darmon dell’etichetta francese Bonsaï Music, con la quale Giovanni e Ferruccio collaborano da molti anni. Questo lavoro discografico, registrato nell’inverno del 2019, rende omaggio all’arte del grande compositore Ennio Morricone–recentemente scomparso–focalizzando sulla sua opera musicale dedicata al cinema. Giovanni e Ferruccio hanno per l’occasione selezionato musiche molto conosciute al grande pubblico–come ad esempio quelle composte per i film “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso”, “C’era UnaVolta In America” e per la serie televisiva “La Piovra”–e brani tratti da opere cinematografiche meno note–tra le altre “La Tarantola Dal Ventre Nero”, “Metello” e“Gli Avvoltoi Hanno Fame”. L’attento lavoro di arrangiamento operato sulla musica di Morricone mira a presentare le sue composizioni nella loro forma più essenziale, attraverso esecuzioni in solo, duo–anche avvalendosi di sovraincisioni–e con il prezioso contributo della cantante belga Chrystel Wautier o della vocalist CristinaRenzetti. More Morricone sarà pubblicato il 18 settembre (il 21 agosto uscirà in anteprima il single “I Figli Morti”), poi seguirà un tour, che porterà il duo in concerto inFrancia, in Italia ed in altri Paesi.
